FeLV/FIV testing

Feline Leukemia (FeLV) is a virus spread primarily cat-to-cat through bite wounds and mutual grooming. FeLV infection can lead to certain cancers, blood disorders, and other serious conditions that can severely impact the life of your cat. Vaccination for FeLV can minimize the risk of your kitty getting FeLV. We recommend periodic testing to ensure that this nasty virus is not a cause for concern!

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is usually spread through bite wounds. While many of our FIV-positive feline friends can lead healthy lives and remain asymptomatic for years, this virus makes them more susceptible to other viruses, bacteria, and fungi. In short, a little kitty cold can become life-threatening! As a result, knowing if your cat is FIV-positive is vital information to your vet because it alters our treatment plans for keeping your kitty in purrfect working order.

All it takes is 3 drops of blood and 15 minutes to test for these two viruses! For more information on these viruses, click on the green buttons!

Heartworm testing

Florida is mosquito central! Even so, heartworm disease is 100% preventable! Heartworms are spread through mosquito bites and can infect dogs, cats, ferrets, and other mammals. Heartworms can damage the heart, lungs, and vital organs, and can be fatal if left untreated. We recommend periodic testing for heartworms in dogs, especially those not on heartworm prevention. Did we mention heartworms are 100% preventable?!

Microchipping

A microchip is extremely valuable to pet owners as it contains all of your and your pet’s vital information in the event that you two become separated. The microchip itself is very small (about the size of a grain of rice) so implantation under your pet’s skin is relatively painless, requiring no sedation or anesthesia. Here at Edison Park Animal Hospital, we take care of the registration and paperwork; all you have to do is bring in your cat or dog!

Heartworm, Flea and Tick Prevention

Heartworms, fleas, and ticks are 100% preventable so why treat when you can prevent?? We choose our brands of prevention carefully, which is why we offer a range of great products- Heartgard, Nexgard, Advantage Multi, and Bravecto! We believe that oral medications (Heartgard, Nexgard, and Bravecto) should be regarded as treats, so all of ours come in flavored chews. That way your dog will look forward to staying healthy every month, and you don’t have to deal with the hassle of pilling anyone!
